Nov-Dec 08 update

Well, sorry for being away for a while, but the summer has kept me busy around the house.  Items for the ’59 are starting to return to us.  The hardtop, convertible top, windshield, and side windows are now finished and back in the garage after all the work being completed at Auto Entec.  The chrome has returned from Advance Plating and absolutely looks gorgeous.  There are many new pictures posted on these items in the photo album.  The weather is finally starting to turn cooler and, with the humidity dropping, the conditions are getting near perfect for painting the body.

The frame is back from the paint shop along with many other parts to be assembled.  The transmission is rebuilt along with the master cylinder, water pump and other small items.  Assembly has started on the frame along with the black oxide and cadmium plating of nuts and bolts.  Once the frame is assembled and the running gear installed, it will become a complete rolling chassis with wheels and tires, battery, exhaust and steering column and you will actually be able to crank it up and check everything out.

I will keep posting pictures as the progress of reassembly comes along and hope you enjoy following along as the restoration of the Frost Blue ’59 continues.

UPDATE:

Rolling into Spring…

Things are really starting to come together nicely now that the engine is painted and mated to the transmission and now resting in the frame and ready for final assembly of the main items.  All the suspension is finished, and the frame is back on the ground on four wheels and tires and off the jack stands.  Next will come the exhaust and a temporary radiator setup so the engine can be cranked and checked out before the installation of the body.  Plans are to be able to crank the car at the July meeting for the members to see the car work as a rolling chassis.  The body has now made its 30-mile trip to Gary Bolick’s paint shop in Hickory, NC and is now being blocked and sanded for the gel coat and then will come the primer and paint.  Most of the work will be in the hand sanding since the body has never been hit and there are no stress cracks to repair.  I do not have any pictures from the paint shop yet but will have some soon as I have to stop by and take some in the next few weeks.  Keep checking back and see how the resurrection of this classic comes along.

September 2009 update:  The body has been primed and is ready for paint.  See photos below (at bottom of page).

                                                                                             Sincerely, Mark Curtis
